Anther good crust that is amazing with the chocolate pie recipe is this nut version. It is a little like making a graham cracker crust but with nuts ground down instead of the crackers.
It will add a rich flavor that everyone will recognize but not be able to fully put their finger on it. You can always say it's just a family secret.
Preheat your oven to 350.
Take 1c almond flour and 1c of ground walnuts - ground down to match the consistency of the almond flour 1/4tsp salt and then around 1/2c of FINELY chopped walnuts or almonds for a little more texture if you would like it a little sweeter you can add 2-3 TBSP of sugar (I do not I prefer it to be sightly more savory to offset anything sweet). Mix all ingredients with 1/4 c melted butter, coconut oil or even butter flavor veg shortening and then press into your pan. Bake at 350 for about 12-15 min until golden brown. Fill and enjoy.
We sometimes do a version of this crust filled with a mix of cream cheese and cool whip sprinkled with mini chocolate chips which is topped with a chocolate pudding or custard, then topped with more cool whip. Think about using that basic idea with that homemade, rich chocolate mousse and fancy vanilla bean whipped cream.
This would be an amazing base for a homemade cheesecake.
Someday soon I will create a post with the very first cheesecake recipe I mastered when I was 12 years old with a couple ideas to kick it up from there.
Until then have a beautiful time playing with your cooking experiments. Hope to see you all out there killing it.
